Coinbase
Largest US crypto exchange · customer custody and spot-ETF backing · @coinbase
Coinbase's $88.94B on-chain is custody, not a house bet — customer balances plus the BTC that backs most US spot Bitcoin ETFs, sitting on Coinbase's cold-storage rails. BTC ($62.6B) is roughly 70% of the visible book, with ETH, USDC and SOL behind it. Read this stack as reserves and flow, not conviction — the signal is net in/out, not what Coinbase thinks price does next.
The desk's read
The wallets tagged here are Coinbase's custody and exchange infrastructure — Coinbase Custody and Coinbase Prime — not a proprietary trading book. Overwhelmingly these are client coins: retail balances, institutional custody, and, critically, the bitcoin that Coinbase holds as qualified custodian for most of the US spot BTC ETF complex. So the $62.6B in BTC is not Coinbase's directional call; a large slice of it is ETF-owned and moves on share creations and redemptions, not on Coinbase's own risk appetite.
Composition tells you what the rails carry. Bitcoin ($62.6B) dominates, but the Ethereum chain shows $16.2B against only $7.6B of spot ETH — the gap is USDC-on-Ethereum, staked/wrapped ETH and other ERC-20 balances Coinbase custodies for clients. USDC ($5.05B) reflects Coinbase's deep operational tie to the stablecoin, and there's meaningful spread onto its own Base L2 ($2.26B) and, notably, $5.16B parked on HyperEVM. SOL ($1.66B) rounds out a book that mirrors what US clients actually hold.
For a trader reading flows, this is a reserves gauge, not a positioning tell. Sustained net outflows to self-custody read as clients de-risking exchange counterparty exposure; large BTC moves are worth cross-checking against ETF creation/redemption prints before calling them 'selling.' Watch USDC mint/redemption around the Coinbase float, and treat Base and HyperEVM balances as plumbing rather than bets. Proof-of-reserves and net in/out are the honest tape here — conviction is the wrong frame for a custodian.

Not investment advice. Entity labels are on-chain attribution and can be imperfect; a labelled balance may mix personal, treasury and custody wallets. Large balances do not imply intent — some never move.
