How to read it
The index is a contrarian tool, most useful at its extremes. The five zones:
0–25 · Extreme Fear
Investors are panicking. Historically these troughs have clustered near local bottoms — the point of maximum pessimism, when the marginal seller is already out.
75–100 · Extreme Greed
Investors are euphoric and over-extended. These peaks have often preceded corrections — the point where the marginal buyer is running out.
"Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." The middle of the range carries little signal; it is the pins at 0–25 and 75–100 that matter. Sentiment is a coincident-to-leading indicator of turning points, not a timing tool on its own — read it alongside price structure and flows, never in isolation.

FAQ
The TT desk thoughts
We only trade this at the tails. A print in the low teens is worth more than a hundred neutral readings — it tells us the crowd is capitulating and dry powder is stacking. The mistake is treating the index as a live buy/sell switch; it is a pressure gauge, and pressure can stay extreme for weeks. We use extreme fear to size up conviction longs and extreme greed to trim, always confirmed by USDT dominance and price.
