Total crypto market cap — live, with history
Total crypto market cap is the combined US-dollar value of every cryptocurrency in existence — the size of the whole asset class in one number. It is the widest-angle lens on the market: bitcoin, ether, every altcoin and stablecoin summed. The value below is pulled live on load, and the chart under it traces Bitcoin's market cap back to 2010 as an honest proxy for the total's shape while the full total series is collected.
The curve is Bitcoin's market cap, which tracks roughly 55–60% of the total and moves in the same shape. A full total-market-cap daily series is being collected and will replace it. The big live number above is the real total, fetched live.

How to read it
▲ Expanding total
The asset class as a whole is growing — new capital, higher prices, or both. The broadest confirmation that money is flowing into crypto rather than out.
▼ Contracting total
The market is shrinking in dollar terms. Read it with dominance: a falling total but rising BTC dominance means alts are bleeding faster than bitcoin.
Total market cap is best read together with dominance — bitcoin's and ether's share of the total, shown live above. A rising total with falling BTC dominance is the classic "altseason" tell: money is rotating down the risk curve. A rising total with rising BTC dominance means the majors are leading. The absolute number sets the scene; the composition tells the story.
The landmarks
The chart is Bitcoin's market cap — the cleanest long history the market has, and a close proxy for the total's shape. Hover any date; the rough cycle milestones:
| Era? | BTC market cap? | What it meant? |
|---|---|---|
| Late 2017 | ~$320B peak | The first retail mania cycle topped out |
| Nov 2021 | ~$1.2T all-time high | Peak of the leverage-and-liquidity cycle |
| Late 2022 (LUNA, FTX) | Trough near $300B | Deleveraging wiped most of the cycle's gains |
| 2024–2026 | Rebuilt above $1T | ETF-era recovery back to new highs |
How to read a row → Nov 2021 · ~$1.2T all-time high: bitcoin peaked near $1.2T at the top of the last cycle — the shape the whole market traced at its high.

FAQ
The TT desk thoughts
The headline total is the least useful number on this page — it moves mostly with bitcoin. What we actually watch is TOTAL2 and TOTAL3 in spirit: the market excluding BTC, and excluding BTC and ETH. Those isolate whether the long tail is being fed or starved. Until our full history lands here, pair the live total with our USDT dominance chart and stablecoin cap for the flows underneath the number.
